Are you a new or seasoned needlepointer looking to paint your own canvases? Maybe you're an aspiring designer?

From DIYing a chart you purchased from a needlepoint/cross-stitch designer to translating your own vision onto canvas, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start. Maybe you're an artist working in a different medium and want to see your work on needlepoint canvas—that's exactly how I started! Our industry flourishes when unique voices pull up a chair.

While I know there are many free resources and tutorials out there (and they're wonderful starting points), I also know from teaching art and needlepoint to countless individuals that everyone's brain and learning style is different. If you've ever felt overwhelmed sorting through scattered advice or wondered why certain techniques work (and others don't), I've created this guide just for you.

What to expect:

With over 20 years of painting experience and almost 11 years dedicated specifically to painting needlepoint canvases, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how color, texture, design principles, and technique bring stitched art to life. From a needlepointer’s point of view, we’ll explore the method to the madness—making the process approachable, intentional, and fun.

In this digital guide, I share an in-depth look at the art of painting needlepoint canvases, from choosing the right materials to refining your brushwork and creating designs that truly reflect your unique style and voice. We'll also dive into the difference between imitation and inspiration, and the lessons I've learned along the way—like how receiving a C&D from Veuve Clicquot in January of 2020 made me completely rethink my design approach. (Parody clauses don't always protect you).

From color theory, to moodboards, to sketches, to charting, and the final product, I'll walk you through the process from start to finish, using one of my designs as a case study.

What you'll learn:

Color Theory, color psychology, typography, basic design principles, composition and layout, hard-earned industry knowledge, and an inside look at how I design from start to finish and the decisions I make along the way. We'll also dive into imitation vs. inspiration, how to paint your canvas, and how to approach it as a needlepointer. Lastly, we'll discuss formatting and how to create ready-to-pitch designs for shops, design collectives, and more.

When can we get started?

This guide drops on Monday, April 20th, and offers a deep dive into the step-by-step process—from painting from a favorite designer’s chart to confidently creating your own original designs.

✨ Delivered as a digital .PDF you can revisit anytime. More information to follow.
